“ Each indecision brings its own delays and days are lost lamenting over lost days… What you can do or think you can do, begin it. For boldness has Magic, Power, and Genius in it.” Johann Wolfgang Goethe
Welcome to our second-generation family farm tucked under the Black Mountains.
We are a mother and daughter business, we are both artists and (non-horsey) horse lovers. Over the years we’ve had a lot of joy from hosting at our beloved farm, people appreciate our laid-back living attitude and the peaceful atmosphere of our valley… this inspired the idea of our retreats. As we know, the world is a hectic place and we feel a little respite from everyday worries at the farm, this is what we want to share with you. Because our farm’s origin is 15th century, in many ways it still feels as it once was, somehow timeless.
The ethos of our farm has always been about preserving and respecting nature. We have never used insecticides or fertilizers and manage the land very carefully in order to encourage as much diversity and support for wildlife as possible, in-fact, a large percentage of our retreat profits will go to insuring the conservation of the land we so cherish.
We are a 15 minute drive from the world’s largest book town, Hay-on-Wye, with all of it’s many unique attractions, a horse ride or walk from the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and a short car drive to medieval landmarks, Snodhill Castle, breathtaking Llanthony Abbey and the 12th century Cistercian Dore Abbey. We are an easy direct train from Paddington and have easy links to all the major airports.
We offer retreats, either riding (with the option to bring your own horse) or art.
We have a beautiful outdoor swimming pool and a sauna (open in Summer) and the options for extras, like massage, yoga, and guided walks.
In the ideal world guests would book in a group of 6-8 people for an exclusive break but we do put together mixed groups of people for a shared experience too.
Generally our breaks are either 3 days/4 nights of guided art or 3/4 nights days of riding in the hills. We can accommodate a combination of both too.
The retreat is a celebration of creativity, peace, unspoiled countryside and a switch off from modern life. Bring your book, old jeans, paintbrush and join us (leave your laptop, clean clothes and hairbrush at the door).
